The rejection of sexploitation film followed the larger logic of this politico-generational discourse: Sexploitation film, on the one hand often viewed as a new phenomenon breaking with traditional views on sexuality and proper film production practice, was on the other hand guilty by association with the cinema of the past. The most active directors in sexploitation film were, biographically, positioned squarely in “Daddy’s cinema”: Franz Josef Gottlieb (known for several entries in the Edgar Wallace series), Franz Marischka, Adrian Hoven, or Hans Billian. The key producers involved in sexploitation, of which more will be said later, were mostly fairly young but also had all made their first steps in “Daddy’s cinema” before endeavoring into sexual themes.
